This Privacy Policy explains how Surveyors Edge, LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information in connection with Surveyor’s Edge, the Surveyor’s Edge website, and related support communications.

Summary

Surveyor’s Edge is a project-based field mapping app. The app may use location/GPS, camera/photos, device storage or file access, imported and exported project files, map layers, offline map data, points, tracks, alignments, coordinate systems, and geotagged or stamped photos to provide its core features.

The app is designed primarily around user-controlled project data. Project files, points, tracks, photos, alignments, localizations, map layers, offline tiles, and exports are generally stored on the user’s device or in locations the user selects. We do not sell personal or sensitive user data.

Information the app may access or use

Location and GPS information

The app may access device location to show your position on a map, navigate to points or targets, calculate station/offset context near alignments, log points, record tracks, geotag photos, and support field mapping workflows. If you enable track logging or a feature that continues recording while the app is not in focus, the app may use location in the background until you stop that feature or revoke permission.

Camera, photos, and image metadata

The app may access the camera when you choose to capture a photo. It may access photos or images that you select or import. Photo features may create stamped images that include user-entered descriptions, notes, coordinates, heading, alignment station/offset, date/time information, and an optional logo or watermark selected by the user.

Files, device storage, and project data

The app may read, create, import, export, and share files needed for project workflows, including Surveyor’s Edge project packages, localization files, point files, photo files, tracks, alignments, DXF, LandXML, KML/KMZ, shapefiles, MBTiles, map layers, coordinate system definitions, offline map data, and related sidecar files. The app may use Android file pickers or storage permissions to access files or folders selected by the user.

Map layers, basemaps, and online services

When you use online basemaps, custom XYZ or WMTS servers, projection lookup features, or other online resources, requests may be sent to third-party providers or servers selected by the app or by the user. Those providers may receive information needed to fulfill the request, such as IP address, requested map tiles, map area, server URL, or related technical request data. Offline map downloads may also request tiles from the selected map provider.

Support communications

If you contact us for support, we may receive your email address, name or company name if you provide it, message content, screenshots, logs, project details, or files you choose to send. Please avoid sending sensitive project files, exact site locations, client data, or confidential information unless it is necessary for support and you are authorized to share it.

How information is used

Information is used to provide app functionality, including mapping, navigation, coordinate conversion, localization/calibration, layer display, offline map management, point logging, photo stamping, track recording, alignment station/offset calculations, project import/export, sharing workflows, troubleshooting, and customer support.

How information is shared

We do not sell personal or sensitive user data. Data may be shared only in the following general situations:

User-directed sharing: when you export, email, text, upload, save, or otherwise share project files, photos, KML, points, tracks, alignments, or other app data.
Third-party services selected or used for app functionality: such as map tile providers, custom XYZ/WMTS servers, file pickers, cloud storage providers, email/text apps, or other services you choose to use.
Service providers: limited providers that help operate the website, app distribution, hosting, support, or related business services.
Legal or safety reasons: if required to comply with law, legal process, or valid governmental request, or to protect rights, safety, security, or the integrity of the app and website.

Data retention and deletion

Project data stored by the app generally remains on the user’s device, in app-controlled storage, or in locations selected by the user until the user deletes it, exports it, removes the app, clears app data, or deletes the relevant files. Support emails and related communications may be retained as needed to respond to requests, maintain business records, and improve support.

Security

We use reasonable measures to protect information we control. Online requests should use modern secure connections where supported by the selected service. No app, device, network, or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Your choices

You can grant or revoke Android permissions through device settings.
You can stop GPS or track logging features inside the app.
You can choose which files, photos, layers, and project packages to import or share.
You can delete app-created files, project data, photos, tracks, map data, or the app itself subject to device and Android storage behavior.

Children’s privacy

Surveyor’s Edge is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Website privacy

The Surveyor’s Edge website is a public marketing, guide, legal, and support website. Hosting, CDN, analytics, security, or server-log systems may process standard technical information such as IP address, browser type, user agent, requested pages, referring pages, and timestamps.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the app, website, legal requirements, or Google Play requirements change. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
